The school environment is a reflection of the passion and enthusiasm held by each staff member. Celebrations, carnivals, festivals and competitions are an important part of the mosaic that forms the in-depth culture here at Geraldton Senior High School. These would not be possible without the time and efforts volunteered by various staff members.
The culture of the High School is one that fosters the nurturing and development of the students to help them discover and achieve their full potential. Our staff provides the very best opportunities to suit student needs.
There are many ways that those who work at Geraldton Senior High School go above and beyond to help every student reach their potential. This might be spending some extra time to have a chat to working extra hours to provide tutoring sessions, making specialty labs available after school to complete a project or setting up international, interstate and local excursions.
In many cases, staff members engage in higher level learning in their spare time to develop their skills and stay in touch with latest changes in education.
The list of examples goes on and on. If you have feedback about some of the great things that our staff has done, feel free to email it to geraldton.shs.@education.wa.edu.au
Our School Board
The School Board is the governance body responsible for representing the strategic direction of Geraldton Senior High School. Our board is made up of 15 members: parents (5), community members (5), and staff (5). At least one community member is of Aboriginal descent.
With the best outcome for students in mind, the board meets monthly to consider the vision and direction of the school, with members bringing ideas and lending their expertise to many topics including strategic planning and community partnerships. The School Board also oversees the Business Plan, and monitors the budget for actions that support our four priorities of:
- Success for all Students
- Quality Teaching and Leadership
- Community Partnerships
The School Board meets monthly during term on the third Tuesday from 6pm – 7:30pm. The Annual General Meeting is held in May each year.
Please contact the school on 08 9965 8400 for more information.
At the P&C meetings, we discuss the allocation of funds raised at the canteen and avenues in which we may be lobbying on behalf of our High School in support of their buildings, staffing and general government resources.
Our Principal welcomes ideas from parents and keenly seeks new ways to engage parents in school activities.
Be there to meet other committed parents, to show your support and become more involved. It is your voice and forum to:
- develop a personal relationship with other parents and the Principal
- better understand the issues faced by the High School
- participate in forums and panels for decisions affecting the school including School Council, Canteen & Health Committees, Finance Committees and selection panels
- lobby on behalf of your school to influence decision making from a parent’s point of view
- participate in the WA Council of State Schools Organisation (WACSSO) training, activities and conferences
Your presence at two meetings per term means we can sustain a quorum of 10 members. Membership is only $1. Meetings are held monthly. Please see the calendar on the home page for information on the next meeting.
